Senior Nurse Secondary Mental Health

The post holder will report operationally to the Operations Manager and professionally to the Regional Clinical Governance Lead for Primecare. They will be required to provide information and to contribute to monthly and annual reports for key strategic partners, outlining key achievements and areas of continued development. To actively promote and ensure an improved patient centred approach to service provision within the prison.

The role is working 38 hours per week on a permanent contract in HMP Altcourse working Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.  

Role & Responsibilities
•    To have responsibility for the clinical leadership and management of the nursing component of the secondary mental health service.
•    To be responsible for effective co-ordination of the service.
•    To take a lead in ensuring the effective partnership working in all relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies involved in the care of the prison population.
•    To be responsible for supporting functions such as absence management, supervision, training and development and appraisal.
•    To be a key driver in taking forward the recommendations relating to Integrated Mental Health Services.
•    To take the lead in ensuring the effective partnership working in all relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies involved in the care of the prison population.
•    To be locally accountable for and act as safeguarding lead within the service escalating concerns as per company policy whist embedding a robust safeguarding culture.
•    To support both internal and external communication to the team and support integration between primary health and primary mental health, as well as custodial operational services, health and social care services.
•    Work with the Clinical Auditor to ensure safe and effective clinical audit alongside appropriate levels clinical supervision for your team.
•    To be responsible for the management of all clinical complaints, serious clinical incidents and to ensure that related learning within the branch and within policy standards is appropriately captured.
•    The professional development and line management of the secondary mental health staff which encompasses both registered and support staff
•    Lead the team in the provision of high-quality care for adults with mental health problems.
•    To manage, control and review all CPA and administrative resources allocated to the secondary mental health service.

Qualifications & Experience
•    Current NMC registration, RMN, Educated to degree level or equivalent.
•    Evidence of continual CPD
•    Nurse prescriber, or willingness to undertake course.
•    Ideally post holder should have extensive post registration
•    Experience and/or demonstrate expert clinical and professional practice developed through experience and theoretical knowledge
•    Substantial experience in managing change.
•    Ability to maintain professional and personal credibility across all staff groups
•    Awareness of issues in mental health care both locally and nationally.
•    Sound working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Clinical Governance and its application
•    Proven ability to teach, supervise junior staff and learners
•    Ability to lead teams, lead practice and continuous professional development,
